Gingham Style

Spring fashion brings loads of colours and prints; and each year, I undoubtedly swoon over the gorgeous options that paint the runway. This Spring’s Gingham print is nothing new to the fashion scene, but this trend isn’t just making a comeback, it’s making a hot comeback! With a more modern, chic, and sexy twist to the traditional favourite.

We are seeing the Gingham print in a variety of colours from pretty powdery pastels to fun bold brights, while getting fancy with deep-v’s, cut-outs and sheer silks. There were many classic black and white options to hit the runway, which is a safe way to introduce this print into your closet. Or for the more adventurous fashionista, go on and embrace all the rage with mixing prints for that fun, flirty, effortless look.

Top it Off

Before we dive into the beanie and toque weather. Let’s embrace Hats.

This must have Fall accessory  instantly adds a cool vibe to any outfit and is super functional on those not so great hair days. Don’t let hats intimidate your style and find the look that suits you best. If you aren’t sure where to start, the classic wide brim fedora is an easy choice and a great addition to any hat collection. But don’t forget about the other trendy toppers, floppy, matador, panama, or porkpie- there are options, so find what works for you.

Here are some of my favourite looks.

For the Love of Fall

While the Summer heat is what we yearn for all year long, it’s the crisp Fall that really warms my heart. The freshness in the air, the changing colours in the trees, and the Fall fashion- I welcome it each year with pure delight.

As we enter October and start to feel the presence of Fall with the cooler temps, I am comforted knowing that many of my favourite things are amongst us;  Thanksgiving (my fav holiday), Autumn hikes, all things pumpkin, cozy knits, fur, scarves, dark mani’s, plum lips, and warm savoury soups (can’t wait to share with you some delish recipes).

Designer Duo to Watch: Sons of Ódin

Toronto Men’s Fashion Week made its debut this past August at the Fairmont Royal York showcasing Spring Summer 2015 collections. It’s great to see menswear finally getting a show of their own, as the interest in menswear is on the rise. While there were many fantastic designers that showcased, there is one designer duo that I am quite enthused about, Toronto-based Sons of Ódin, Zakariah Milana and Charlene Martin.

I have known Char for the last 6 years and have excitedly followed her and Zakariah’s success of Sons of Ódin over the last 2 years. Not only am I a huge fan, but since their runway debut at TOM*, there has been a ton of buzz around the pair and the strong show that they delivered.

Sons of Ódin delivered “a reinvention of the modern day man”, a collection that is edgy and noir. The S/S15 collection “Deserted” shows inspirations of:  New Orleans, the U.S. military, Marrakech, Egypt, and armour. The collection has the perfect combination of monochromatic basics, patterns (the rose and rope print-ah-mazing!), rich textures, and zipper and leather detailing. This duo hit practical ready to wear menswear bang on. I can’t wait to see this brand evolve in the years to come.

Be sure to follow them socially via Facebook SONS OF ÓDIN, Twitter SONSOFODIN_ or Instagram @SONOFODIN_

Going Nude

Wearing nude may come off as basic and boring, but it is anything but. Nude is simple, easy, classy, chic, sexy, definitely not boring! Nude coloured accessories pair well with any ensemble and work for both daytime and evening looks. I like to think of it as my go to alternative to black. Nude accessories are staples to have in ones wardrobe and are an easy fix, when you run into styling problems. They go with everything and look oh so chic.

Nude shoes are my favourite go to option as they are a no brainer when it comes to pulling together an outfit. They can be the statement piece, see Valentino Rockstud Patent T-strap or they can complement a statement outfit just perfectly like Christian Louboutins “So Kate”. Nude has become such a staple that Christian Louboutin made a collection showcasing different shades of nude to match your skin tone, he even went as far as developing an app to discover the right shade for you.  Louboutin says that nude shoes are like magic, “The shoes are there to give the woman an extra lift, not to take attention away from the legs and what she is wearing. They disappear like magic and become a fluid extension of her legs, as in a sketch, elongating the silhouette.”

Some of my favourite nude picks are shown here:
